The beginning of Fonte di Foiano dates back to the end of the Seventies, when Michele and Marina di Gaetano decided to leave their urban life in Milan to and realise their dream of setting up an olive farm in Tuscany. Having travelled around the whole peninsula, they finally chose the area of Castagneto Carducci – Bolgheri, where the hills of Segalari open up a beautiful view on the sea and the islands. The adventure started with a centuries-old olive-grove coming back to life. Many additional varieties were planted and in 1990 the olive oil mill was built. These initiatives followed the same philosophy focus on quality excellence at every step of the production process.
The farm currently covers 25 hectares and is fully managed by the second generation, Paolo and Simone. A combination of their passion for the olive tree and constant research and development efforts, have led to the recognition of Fonte di Foiano as one of the most respected Italian producers of fine extra virgin olive oils.
Fonte di Foiano has quickly risen through the ranks of the most prestigious international olive oil competitions. In 2017, it was recognised by Flos Olei, the international olive oil guide, as the farm of the year. It is currently recognised as one of the very best Italian olive oil producers.
