Flos olei: the international olive oil guide
Early December every year, Marco Oreggia, brings together journalists, chefs, producers and importers from all the 5 continents for the presentation of the new edition of Flos Olei, the international olive oil guide. This year’s guide reviews olive oils from 51 countries. Oils are tasted by a panel of highly qualified experts, only the very best qualify to be included in the guide. Besides the description of the producer, the oil, it also includes the sensory profile and serving suggestions with a wealth of information about the most important production regions.
FINCA LA TORRE ACHIEVES THE HIGHEST SCORE
This year, our partner, Finca La Torre, the organic and biodynamic farm in Antequera in the South of Andalusia, led by Victor Perez achieved the highest score of 99/100. The exceptional ranking is a continuation in a rare trajectory within the premium olive oil market. Finca La Torre has already won many of the most prestigious international olive oil competitions. Most notably, it won the highest award with its hojiblanca 4 years in a row at the Mario Solinas Quality Award of the International Olive Oil Council in the intense green fruitiness category.
ABOUT FINCA LA TORRE
Based in the beautiful village of Antequera, Finca La Torre has been one of the pioneeers in the biodynamic production of olive oil in Spain. The estate surrounds a small hill which is witnessing a rich biodiversity which encompasses birds, small animals as well as wild horses. It produces hojiblanca, arbequina and cornicabra distributed in its elegant blue square bottles. Its hojiblanca is one of our most popular oils in the UK. It surprises many customers with its intense flavour and high complex and long taste. It is also one of the oils with the highest polyphenol (source of anti-oxydants) content available in the market
HARVEST TIME AT FINCA LA TORRE
We had the opportunity to visit Victor and Borja for a special day marking the beginning of the new harvest. Besides many international importers, the event attracted award-winning chefs, journalists and TV crews as well as many of the best artisan food producers from the Malaga region. Finca La Torre has quickly become one of the ambassadors of excellence from the region. It plays a particularly important role thanks to its quick rise to the highest ranks of the world’s best olive oils but also its commitment to the environment. Run as an organic and a biodynamic farm, it has become an inspiration to many young olive oil producers both in Spain and internationally.
